PWNC Foundation Transition Program

Felicia Shanken

Founder of PWNC Foundation, Inc.

Hello I’m Felicia Shanken, Founder of the PWNC Foundation, Inc. The reason why I started the Foundation was to help those women in the corporate world transition to full time entrepreneurship. I remember it like it was yesterday, when I still worked for corporate America almost 5 years ago. I had gotten to the point where I knew this was not how I wanted to live out the rest of my life.

I worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs here in Philadelphia for 9 1/2 years every weekend. Yes, every weekend I can’t tell you how many events, family affairs and spending time with my family I missed. Now don’t get me wrong I loved working with the Veterans and having a great paying government job, but I gave up my freedom all for a job that was never going to fulfill me. I knew there was something better waiting for me and I had to make a decision. So, one day I went in to my corporate job sat down at the computer, wrote my resignation letter and press send. I felt so liberated and I knew then that it was the best decision I have ever made in my life.

I wanted to become a full-time entrepreneur, I had a plan I just didn’t know how to go about executing it or even where to begin. I took a leap of faith and figured it out as I went along. The road wasn’t easy especially when you are building a business from the ground up. I had to figure a lot of things out on my own and one huge obstacle was seeking out the resources and the contacts that I needed in order to be successful and to get this program going. I had to find out where to go and what to do. You would think, ok great let me get started right? Unfortunately the Foundation was started in October 2019 right when COVID-19 came into play. Everything had to be put on hold, raising funds for the foundation, planning live events and so on. We pivoted like everyone else but we were in our infant stage.

With the help of our board members at the time and donors we were able to stay afloat to continue the mission we set out to do. This is when the PWNC Foundation Transition Program was born and I knew that there were other corporate women out here who were feeling the same way that I felt 5 years ago and eventually wanted a exit strategy.

Through the PWNC Foundation Transition Program, we have put a program in place with corporate women in mind who want to become full time entrepreneurs. In addition to assisting these women with start-up full-time businesses, we also help existing businesses that are either struggling or looking to grow by creating a program for them as well. We can’t do this without help especially funding for the program.

The Transition program includes mentorship, business education, peer-to-peer support, business support, resources for financing, seminars, e-learning courses and workshops on important topics that business owners need to in order to have a thriving successful business.

Some of the topics that are taught in the program by experts in their field include Business Structure, Accounting, Legal, Marketing, Sales , Pricing for your product or service, Strategic Planning, Goal Setting, Leadership, Resources for funding sources and much more. We have extensive experience in working with Entrepreneurs and working to revitalize economically depressed communities. We want to make sure that in helping these women through this program they are able to economically enhance their communities by offering services and employment.

Our experience has taught us that, many times, entrepreneurs need technical assistance and marketing from experts. Whether it is legal assistance needed to create contracts, structure their business properly, or tax advice to ensure they are operating legally, we have found this expertise to be an invaluable resource for entrepreneurs.

We work with diverse groups of business owners to produce strong, stable businesses Nationally and Globally at some point. We are a 100% Female Minority-Owned Business. Building strong relationship is important to us.

We put the necessary time and effort into building strong relationships because we know they are invaluable. Everyone deserves a seat at the table.

The PWNC Foundation Transition program is for those corporate women who are ready to take the leap into full-time entrepreneurship. They have to be committed and focused on their entrepreneurial success. We can give them the tools to help them become successful, however without the right mindset and dedication they will not succeed. The choice has and always be theirs!
